/etc The /etc directory contains all the configuration for files needed for some of the binaries

For example

The application 'openssh-server' (ssh) by default has login by root disabled. In the correct ssh config file located in /etc/ssh/... you can alter an ssh config file and make it possible for the root user to login over ssh.
